Literacy Education, Ph.D.

Admission for fall, spring, and summer semester starts are considered on a rolling basis. However, we have suggested deadlines of:

  • January 15 for the fall or summer semester of the same year.
  • October 1 for the spring semester of the next year.

Applicants should ensure that all of the required materials are submitted by that date.

Admissions Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree. Master’s in education or related area (i.e., literacy, reading education, or TELL) preferred.
  • Official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate study
  • 3 years K-12 teaching experience recommended
  • A well written personal statement indicating focus, drive, and knowledge of literacy-related Ph.D. career paths
  • 3 recommendations that speak to the candidate’s potential to contribute to the field of literacy
  • GRE is optional (not required)
  • TOEFL scores for students who are non-native speakers of English
  • Interview encouraged
