Event Information

For Graduates (all levels): Plan to arrive no later than 2:45 p.m. Graduates should enter Schine via the Waverly Ave entrance and go to the Schine Underground to get lined up and ready. Graduates must have regalia to participate; doctoral graduates should carry their hoods. Staff will assist in grouping and lining up graduates for the ceremony and walking to Goldstein Auditorium.

For Guests: Enter through the Einhorn Family Walk entrance to get the second floor of Schine. Students should NOT enter through there and should go directly to the Schine Underground. Accessible seating is available (there are elevators to Goldstein Auditorium), and both CART open captioning and ASL interpretation will be provided for the audience on the left side of the auditorium. Guest should plan to be in their seats no later than 3:15 p.m.

Security: All guests and graduates will go through a security checkpoint as they enter the building. Purses or bags larger than 10″ by 10″ in size are not permitted and all bags will be checked. Outside food or drink is not permitted except for infant health/accessibility reasons.

Location and Parking: Parking on campus is free during Commencement Weekend. Graduates and guests should plan on using the West Campus lots and garages (downhill from the Dome); more information on accessible parking and shuttles can be found on the Commencement website.

You can find the most recent information on 2023 Commencement Weekend activities, including the School of Education’s Convocation, on the Syracuse University Commencement website.

Qualifications for Participating

Candidates who plan to complete their coursework by August 2023 are invited to participate in the 2023 Commencement Weekend activities. Students must complete the “File Diploma Request” on MySlice by March 1 to start the process of certifying and awarding a degree, and ensure that they know and fulfill all degree requirements for graduation.

Participation in Convocation and Commencement ceremonies does not indicate that degree requirements have been completed. Under special circumstance, students who do not meet this requirement may petition the School of Education for permission to participate. For questions regarding eligibility in the School of Education, please contact the Office of Academic and Student Services.

Regalia / Caps and Gowns

All degree candidates participating in Convocation and Commencement are required to wear academic regalia (caps and gowns). The Syracuse University Campus Store coordinates cap and gown distribution.

Beginning May 1, undergraduate graduation candidates can visit the Campus Store to pick up their cap and gown. Graduate (Master’s, C.A.S. and doctoral) regalia is available for purchase now.
