Program Requirements

The Educational Leadership certificate program requires 30 graduate credits, through 8 required courses and a 6-credit internship over two semesters. Student can complete courses on a timeline that works for them:

  • Most Popular Pathway: one class per week (day of the week varies, 4:30-7 p.m. ET), giving you opportunities to implement course learnings and take on additional teacher leader roles.
  • Accelerated Pathway: two classes per week (days of the week varies, 4:30-7 p.m. ET), allowing you to complete the program in 2-3 years based on your career goals.
  • All students will complete the internship during your final year of the program.

The program is dedicated to a cohort model, where groups of emerging leaders complete each courses together from the start. Coursework areas include:

  • Leadership for Diverse Learners and Communities
  • Curriculum and Instructional Leadership
  • Organizational and Institutional Development
  • Inclusive Schooling
  • District and Building Leadership
  • Legal Basis of Education

Students will also complete a full year internship incorporating both building and district settings. These internships provide opportunities for engaging with children and youth; working with parents and the community; attending board and committee meetings; examining existing and proposed budgets and policies; and facilitating instructional teams. As a culminating experience, students will compile and present a portfolio of experiences, tasks completed, and reflections on the skills they developed during their internship.
