Literacy Education (Birth-Grade 12), M.S.

Program Requirements

The master’s program in Literacy Education requires 30 graduate credits and can be completed in one calendar year of full-time study.

In this rigorous program, you’ll study deeper issues in literacy development, intervention, and literature. Students will complete a professional portfolio that straddles several courses, integrating research and practice. Coursework areas may include:

  • Teaching Comprehension
  • Data-Driven Early Literacy Intervention & Coaching
  • Early Intervention for Children’s Reading Problems
  • Teaching Academic Writing
  • Children’s and Adolescent Literature
  • Issues in Educating English Language Learners

Liberal arts distribution and student safety seminars that are required for New York State certification are presumed completed from previous initial certification programs, but please contact the department if you have any questions.
