Literacy Education, Ph.D.

Suggested Application Deadline: January 15 (summer or fall semester start) or October 1 (spring semester start). Applicants should ensure that all of the required materials are submitted by that date.

Applications for this doctoral program will open on October 15.

Admissions Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree. Master’s in education or related area (i.e., literacy, reading education, or TELL) preferred.
  • Official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate study
  • 3 years K-12 teaching experience recommended
  • A well written personal statement indicating focus, drive, and knowledge of literacy-related Ph.D. career paths
  • 3 recommendations that speak to the candidate’s potential to contribute to the field of literacy
  • GRE is optional (not required)
  • TOEFL scores for students who are non-native speakers of English
  • Interview encouraged
