Yinan Liu, doctoral candidate in Literacy Education, Bong Gee Jang, assistant professor, and Zaline Roy-Campbell, associate professor, have published an article in the top-tier Journal Computers and Education. This article, titled “Optimum input mode in the modality and redundancy principles for university ESL students’ multimedia learning”, finds that Richard Mayer’s cognitive theories of multimedia learning, including modality and redundancy, do not apply to university-level ESL students the same way they do to native English-speaking students.
