Syracuse University School of Education’s Counseling program welcomes two new faculty members in fall 2026, bringing expertise in counselor preparation, mental health access, and trauma-informed counseling.
Alexandra Gantt-Howrey joins SOE as Assistant Professor of Counseling and Human Services from Idaho State University. Holding a Ph.D. from Old Dominion University (2022), Gantt-Howrey’s specialty areas include counselor preparation, social determinants of mental health, cognitive complexity, and rural mental health access.
“My primary research interests are counselor preparation to assess for and address clients’ social determinants of mental health and cognitive complexity, which includes how counselors think about their clients,” explains Gantt-Howrey. “I am also committed to interdisciplinary research efforts to improve rural mental health access and outcomes.”
Also an Assistant Professor of Counseling and Human Services, Eunae Han joins SOE from the University of Texas at El Paso. Before coming to the United States to pursue her master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Iowa—graduating in 2021 and 2022 respectively—she worked as a certified counselor for more than three years in South Korea.
Han continues her clinical practice as an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) trained counselor. Her research interests include feminist approaches to counselor education, trauma-informed counseling and supervision, and researcher identity/research mentoring.
“I believe it is important to incorporate multicultural and social justice perspectives into my roles as a researcher, educator, and advocate,” she explains. Han serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Counseling and Development and Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development.
