Syracuse University School of Education alumnae Megan K. Carney ’22, G’23 and Emily J. Hawryschuk ’20, G’21, G’22, along with fellow Orange Meaghan Tyrrell ’22 and Emma Tyrrell ’24, will play for the New York Charging of the new Women’s Lacrosse League (WLL), which will debut with the WLL Championship Series in Springfield, VA, across Feb. 11 to 17, 2025.
Both Carney and Hawryschuk hold certificates of advanced study in Intercollegiate Athletic Advising and Support from the Syracuse University School of Education, having taken bachelor’s degrees in Sport Management and Accounting, respectively. Hawryschuk also holds a master’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Emerging Enterprises.
Organized by the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL), the WLL Lexus Championship Series is a sixes lacrosse tournament, featuring smaller fields and fewer players per team.

Eight women’s teams will compete at the tourney and subsequently in the league—four teams are already established in the men’s PLL and four are new women’s teams, including the Charging. The tournament launches what will be the only women’s professional lacrosse league in the country.
Carney, currently assistant coach for Florida State University, and Hawryschuk, assistant coach at the Rochester Institute of Technology, were present for the WLL’s launch announcement on Nov. 13, 2024.
Carney played five years for the Orange from 2019 to 2023, totaling 192 goals and 271 points while capturing IWLCA All-American honors multiple times. Hawryschuk similarly starred at Syracuse from 2017 to 2022, notching 272 goals and 341 points.
