Social Studies Education (Grades 7-12), M.S.

Suggested Admissions Deadline: January 15 (summer semester start). Applications are considered on a rolling basis outside of this deadline.

Admissions Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0
  • An history or other social science area major or a 39-credit major equivalent determined via transcript review
  • Official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate study
  • A personal essay describing the candidate’s beliefs about student learning, commitment to diversity, enthusiasm for learning, willingness to foster collaboration, and ethics
  • 3 Letters of recommendation, at least one from a faculty member
  • Prior experiences working with youth
  • Resume or CV
  • GRE not required (optional)
  • Interview encouraged
  • Applicants with or without existing NYS teacher certification may apply; however, applicants must have NO existing Social Studies certification.
