Admissions Deadline: January 15 (for fall semester start). Applicants should ensure that all of the required materials are submitted by that date.

Admissions Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0
  • Official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate study
  • A personal essay describing the candidate’s beliefs about music teaching, student learning, commitment to diversity, enthusiasm for learning, willingness to foster collaboration, and ethics
  • Letters of recommendation from professors and/or employers
  • Interview recommended
  • Resume or CV
  • GRE not required (optional)
  • No audition is required
  • For Preparation program:
    • Bachelor’s degree in music from an institution accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music
    • No existing teacher certification in music
  • For Professional programs:
    • NYS initial certification in Music (all grades)
