Why be an SOE Leadership Scholar?

Access to special funding opportunities to maximize your Syracuse education
The Admissions Committee is pleased to further recognize your achievements with an annual half-tuition Education Leadership Scholarship of $28,940. You’ll also receive priority consideration for opportunities like the study abroad funding; the 50% master’s and C.A.S. scholarships; and funding for conference opportunities and teacher certification exams.

Priority reservation in a SOE-sponsored residential learning community
Live with other SOE students in the Education Living Learning Community who share similar and overlapping interests. Receive free tutoring in crucial first semester courses, participate in academic and career exploration events, and have fun in social programs like a high ropes challenge course, apple picking, bowling, indoor trampoline parks, and more!

Additional professional and career-oriented opportunities
Consider applying to the Renee Crown University Honors Program. Students in the Honors program take fascinating courses (like “The Science of Shipwrecks”, or “Baseball and American Culture”!), participate in special cultural and academic events, and pursue faculty-guided research or creative work that ties to their field. You can also become involved in the School of Education honors society, Kappa Delta Pi.

And – with all the opportunities and care within the School of Education
SOE is a small, tight-knit family of less than 120 new freshman undergraduates each year across 12 majors. Small class sizes and strong relationships with staff and faculty are a hallmark of the SOE experience. Combine theoretical knowledge gained in classes with hands-on experiences in internships and field placements – with most students starting in their first year! As a Leadership Scholar, expect to be cared by, and to care for, your peers and future colleagues in the field.

Eligibility requirements include maintaining good academic standing within major and a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students who fail to meet these requirements are given one trial semester to return to eligibility.

Join the Honors Program

As part of your award, you are invited to apply to the Renee Crown University Honors Program, a small cohort of students brought together to participate in rigorous courses, social and service activities and a significant senior project. Participating in the Honor Program is optional for SOE Leadership Scholars—if you are interested, apply by April 18.
