Wendy Moy, Assistant Professor of Music Education in the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the School of Education at Syracuse University, will be a recurring panelist on a new podcast that explores the intersection of creativity, healing, and personal transformation.
“Unmuted: Art, Embodiment, and the Rhythms of Science” is six-episode series produced by Pennsylvania State University’s Arts and Design Research Incubator (ADRI) and hosted by Bryan Nichols, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Music and Wellness at ADRI. Nichols and Moy are joined on the panel by Mark Montemayor, Professor of Music Education and Director of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Texas.
According to Nicols, “This show explores research in creative ways to steady the noise of everyday life and highlights the science behind how arts practices are a force for healing and personal transformation. Fans who love meaningful conversations, creative insight, and the science behind what moves us will find plenty to love here.”
In the first episode—”Drawing Out Stress: How Art and Science Are Tackling Mental Health”—Sarah Myruski, Associate Research Professor of Psychology at Penn State, discusses her collaborative research with Bill Doan, Professor of Theatre at Penn State and Director of ADRI, on how drawing and mindfulness can be used as tools for managing mental health.
