Roger Hiemstra, professor emeritus, adult education and instructional design, development, and evaluation. He is known for his research in self-directed learning and distance learning and is considered an international leader in both areas. Roger has published widely, with hundreds of journal articles, book chapters, and books. He also has presented at numerous conferences over the years in the United States, as well as in several other countries. Sought after as a keynoter, he has consulted with many organizations on various adult and distance education as well as historical preservation topics. In addition, Professor Hiemstra maintains an extensive adult education web page that is utilized by people throughout the world (www-distance.syr.edu). He received the Malcolm Knowles Memorial Self-Directed Learning Award in 2005 and was inducted into the International Adult and Continuing Education Hall of Fame in 2000. He served on the Hall's Board of directors from 2001 to 2008 and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the International Society for Self-Directed Learning.
