Wendy Moy, Professor of Music Education in Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) and School of Education, has been named a 2024 Champion of Diversity by the YWCA of Syracuse and Onondaga County.
“The 2024 Champions of Diversity Awards are presented to residents, community leaders, and professionals who have made significant efforts to eliminate racism and promote diversity,” says Executive Director Fanny Villarreal. “These actions embody the YWCA’s mission of eliminating racism, empowering women, and enhancing our community by advancing opportunities for all.”
“Professor Wendy Moy has certainly demonstrated an unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in everything she does, particularly in relation to elevating the work produced and performed by female musicians,” says Elisa Macedo Dekaney, Professor of Music Education and Associate Dean of Research, Graduate Studies, and Internationalization, College of Visual and Performing Arts. “Your work in empowering women and enhancing our community by advancing opportunities for all is transformative. Your contributions have now been acknowledge beyond the Syracuse University community.”
Moy, also the Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director of Chorosynthesis Singers/Empowering Silenced Voices Choral Database, was nominated by her VPA colleague Professor José “Peppie” Calvar, “and our committee unanimously agreed that your transformative and selfless work deserves to be honored,” adds Villarreal.
Moy and the other Champions of Diversity will be celebrated at the YWCA’s 26th Annual Day of Commitment to Eliminate Racism and Promote Diversity on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the Marriott Syracuse Downtown.
