A 2023 graduate of Syracuse University school of Education’s Higher/Postsecondary Education master’s degree program, Bailey Tlachac (Oneida Nation of Wisconsin) currently is a multicultural advisor at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. After graduating SOE, Tlachac was Program Coordinator for Syracuse University’s Native Student Program.

“Today, I work with underrepresented populations on campus through one-on-one advising sessions to help with the college transition process and advocate for their needs,” explains Tlachac. “I also collaborate with other departments and student organizations to create meaningful programming through cultural celebrations and heritage month events.”
PAST: What memory from your time at SOE do you most cherish?
I am proud of the Indigenous students whom I worked for and the advocacy work we did to expand Syracuse’s Native Student Program and renovate 113 Euclid.
PRESENT: What are you working on now that you’d like to share with fellow alums?
On top of working in higher education, I am also a current doctoral student in the First Nations Education Ed.D. program at UW-Green Bay. My current research interest are sense of belonging amongst Indigenous faculty and staff at predominantly white institutions, analyzing Indigenous support systems at land-grant universities, and increasing Indigenous representation at college campuses.
FUTURE: What is your hope for the future of education and learning?
In the future, I hope that Indigenous representation and support on college campuses will be at the forefront instead of an afterthought.
