Undergraduate Peer Advisors

peer advisors in matching orange shirts pose with their hands in the air cheeringUndergraduate peer advisors are volunteer School of Education students who represent SOE in a variety of ways, including:

  • Assisting with School of Education orientation during opening weekend
  • Mentoring first year and new transfer students, with responsibilities beginning in the summer and continuing throughout the school year
  • Representing SOE at recruitment and admissions events
  • Being involved in various SOE receptions, events, and programs that occur throughout the academic year

Requirements and Responsibilities

  • On-campus responsibilities begin the Friday before classes start, with some obligations through the weekend
  • Must be willing to communicate with advisees in the summer prior to orientation (email, phone, postcards, etc.)
  • Must continue to be a resource for advisees throughout the semester/year
  • Must attend a 1-hr training session in April
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing
  • Be on campus for at least the fall semester (students can be abroad for spring)

Returning peer advisors have the opportunity to be a Peer Advisor Team Leader. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with peer advisor training (to take place in late March or early April)
  • Leading your peer advisor team through orientation set up and events
  • Serving as a resource for new peer advisors throughout the academic year
  • Additional leadership opportunities during SOE recruitment and admissions events
