Cultural Foundations of Education, Ph.D.

The deadline for admissions for the fall semester is December 1 of the previous year. Applicants should ensure that all of the required materials are submitted by that date; materials cannot be sent to CFE before applying to see if you qualify for admissions. Applications are occasionally considered for program starts in other semesters.

Admissions Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
  • Official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate study
  • Personal statement (read closely and plays a significant role in acceptance)
  • Professional or academic writing sample
  • Interview recommended
  • GRE is optional (not required)
  • International students: TOEFL scores (waived with at least one year of school in the US)

Because of the unique courses involved in the program, students coming into the PhD program directly from their undergraduate program cannot transfer credits and will increase their time to completion. Therefore, an existing master’s degree (or admission to the CFE Master’s program is preferred. Students without a Master’s degree may be considered with strong GRE scores, undergraduate GPA, recommendations from professors, and an excellent personal statement.
