The Social Justice minor prepares students to engage with diverse groups of people while recognizing cultural and individual differences, in social work and similar settings.
Students explore topics in human rights and social, economic, and environmental justice and gain a grounded understanding of diversity, power, oppression, and difference in human service and related fields. Courses provide knowledge and skills in service providing, social policy, and research and analysis, with a focus on ethical and professional behaviors required to best serve communities large and small.
Graduates engage in advocacy, policy development, and evaluation at the local, national and global level, while promoting civic engagement and lasting social change, in careers such as community organizer, rehabilitation counselor, sexual health coordinator, social worker, veterans support specialist, victim advocate, or youth counselor.
The Atrocity Studies and the Practices of Social Justice minor requires 18 credits, including 1 required course and 5 electives. Classes can include an introduction to social work, social welfare policy, LGBTQ issues, social work research, social contexts, and aging. More information on academic requirements available in the Syracuse University Course Catalog.
