Yanhong Liu joined the School of Education in Fall 2018. Prior to joining Syracuse University, Dr. Liu worked at the University of Toledo as a tenure-track assistant professor in Counselor Education. She was the School Counseling Program Coordinator as well as the Admissions Coordinator for MA and Ph.D. in Counselor Education at UT.
Dr. Liu has served several professional/leadership roles nationwide. She serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Counseling & Development (JCD); she has also served as an Associate Editor for The Professional Counselor (TPC) and a Member for several editorial boards of counseling and interdisciplinary journals. Dr. Liu is affiliated with national professional organizations (e.g., ACA; ACES; CSI) and regional and state divisions of the organizations.
Dr. Liu's scholarly work centers around marginalized youth and their supporting systems through various research methods (quantitative; qualitative; mixed-methods).
Dr. Liu actively publishes in indexed, peer-reviewed journals and has been actively involved in grant applications, including competitive national and local grants. She is currently involved in multiple research projects, covering topics such as post-adoption adjustment; child attachment; bullying and school-based interventions; psychometric scale development; and international faculty and students' teaching and supervision preparation.
