The Minor in Coaching prepares students to coach in schools, sports clubs, community programs, colleges, or other athletic organizations. Coursework extends beyond the eight credits required for the New York State Temporary Coaching License and includes 30 coaching practicum hours.

Classes include coaching techniques, health sciences, athletics in education, nutrition, motor behavior, conditioning, and injury prevention. Additional trainings—including Safe and Healthy Learning Environments and CPR—are not required for the coaching minor but are required for a New York State coaching license. If you are interesting in declaring a minor, talk to your advisor in your home school or college to see if you have enough room for the courses, a minimum of a 2.5 GPA, and complete the Minor Declaration Form. If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Academic and Student Services.
