Priority Application Deadline: April 30 (for fall semester start). Applicants should ensure that all of the required materials are submitted by that date. Interviews for applications received by April 30 will be held on May 15 (9-10 a.m. ET).

The final hard deadline to apply for fall is June 1 (interviews June 15, 3-4 p.m. ET).

Note: Project IMPRESS students will start during the summer semester to align with their cohort. Project IMPRESS not available for fall start students.

Admissions Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0.
  • We do not require a specific undergraduate major; however, we do look closely at your transcript to see if you have taken classes that are relevant for counseling
• Official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate study
• A personal statement which defines the applicant’s motivation to seek graduate study and future career ambitions
• 3 letters of recommendation from persons who can speak to the applicant’s academic potential and to their personal qualifications for graduate study in counseling. At least 2 of your references must be from current or former academic instructors.
  • If you graduated more than 10 years ago, references from current or former academic instructors are strongly preferred. Other references should speak to the applicant’s ability to be successful in a graduate school context with details and observations that could transfer into an academic context.

• International students: TOEFL Scores, written test 600, computerized test 250, iBT test 100, IELTS 7.0, or Duolingo English Test

Financial Support

• Project IMPRESS aims to recruit, prepare, and retain future special educators to work in high-needs settings. The program provides up to 100% tuition scholarships in a supportive cohort experience. To be considered, address/talk about your interest in Project IMPRESS in your personal statement.
• Significant scholarships for all master’s and CAS programs! All applicants are automatically considered.
• Assistantships outside of the SOE are frequently available to CHS students. Assistantships and other jobs in departments like the Residence Life, International Students, Academic Services, Athletic Advising, Student Success, and Career Services are posted on the Syracuse University Human Resources website. We suggest interested students look at and apply for jobs in mid-January for the following fall. While most Graduate Assistantships are provided for doctoral students, some are available for master’s students.
