New Undergraduate Student Information

Congratulations on your admission to the Syracuse University School of Education! We are so excited to meet you.

Syracuse University and the School of Education are holding several events over Opening Weekend to familiarize new students and their families with Syracuse University and the School of Education. The New Student Convocation and School of Education Dean's Welcome are mandatory for all new students, including A&S, Falk, and VPA dual enrollees. You should plan on attending as many other events as possible, to get to know the faculty, staff, students, resources, and school that will help you with your journey at Syracuse University.

Syracuse Welcome Event Highlights

New Student Convocation (Required for ALL new undergraduate students)

Carrier Dome

This is a special ceremony that marks the opening of the University and the beginning of your academic career at Syracuse University; you will thoroughly enjoy this Syracuse Welcome event. Families are welcome.

Syracuse Welcome Picnic / Orange Celebration
Thursday August 24, 6:30-10 p.m.
Carrier Dome / The Quad
Immediately after New Student Convocation, select your favorite spot on the turf and join other new students and their families for a picnic dinner. Then make your way to the Quad to celebrate all things Orange. Snap an Orange family photo, enjoy an Orange dessert, and make your Orange Wish in the Orange Grove. You can never have too much Orange! Families are welcome.

Home to the Dome
Thursday August 24, 10 p.m.
Carrier Dome
Learn SU history, trivia, and traditions as you build your Orange pride. At this event you’ll receive your official class T-shirt. Make sure you learn the words to the Syracuse Alma Mater and Fight Song before you get here! For students only.

School of Education Parents/Guardians Meeting
Friday August 25, 9-10 a.m.
Gifford Auditorium, H.B.C. Hall
Information session/Q&A for parents, guardians, and families of incoming students hosted by the assistant dean for academic and student services. Recommended for parents/guardians of all new SOE students.

School of Education Dean's Welcome (Required for ALL new SOE undergraduate students)
Friday August 25, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Gifford Auditorium, H.B.C. Hall
Meet Dean Joanna Masingila, as well your your faculty and academic advisor. During this session you'll also schedule your weekend advising appointment.

Goldstein Auditorium, Schine Student Center

This performance-based presentation includes thought-provoking and sometimes humorous skits and monologues, all based on true stories dealing with sexual consent, assault, and misconduct, and bystander intervention. The program also introduces students to many resources at Syracuse. All first-year and transfer students must attend one of these events.

School of Education Welcome Back Picnic
