Michelle Scarleth Gonzalez
B.S. in Selected Studies in Education (focus in Cultural Foundations of American Schooling: Schooling & Diversity)
Hometown: Huntington Park, California
What do you like best about Selected Studies? Why did you choose your focus area?
I take education classes while also taking classes outside of the education program that I have interest and passion for, such as Latin American Studies. I intend to work for Student Affairs, more specifically with underrepresented students to make their transition into college more smooth. The Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Office of Program Development, and the Office of Student Support Services were some of the offices in this campus that inspired me to pursue this career and so I thought that this focus area would help my success.
What are some research, community, and extra-curriculur activities you have participated in while at SU?
NASPA Undergraduate Fellows Program (NUFP), Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated and Raices Dance Troupe
What are your plans after you graduate?
I want to go to grad school. I still do not know where, but I know I do not wish to stay in Syracuse University. There is still so much to explore at my age, so I want to try something new. I also want to take such school into account for a place that I would settle in, which is why I am still giving it a lot of thought.
