Applications are considered on a rolling basis for all semester starts, but a fall start is recommended; the suggested deadline is January 1. Applicants should ensure that all of the required materials are submitted by that date.
Admissions Requirements
Bachelor’s degree and a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0
Official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate study
A personal essay describing the candidate’s beliefs about student learning, commitment to diversity, enthusiasm for learning, willingness to foster collaboration and ethics
3 letters of recommendation from professors and/or employers
Resume or CV
GRE not required (optional)
An earned or expected to be earned NYS initial certification in Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2, Grades 1-6, or Grades 7-12)
Additional scholarships through the Burgoyne-Burt Scholarship Fund are also available for a limited number of students! All program applicants will be considered.
TA and Assistant Teacher positions are available for students in many of our partner community agencies, schools, and preschool programs.
School of Education Endowed Scholarships, including the Emily Angeline Scholarship, the Roland & Barbara Cook Scholarship, and the Marshall M. Gelfand Special Education Scholarship.
While most Graduate Assistantships through the Department of Teaching and Leadership are provided for doctoral students, some are available for master’s students.
