SOE Co-sponsored SAT Prep Program to be Honored in a Syracuse City School Board Resolution

Syracuse University School of Education faculty and students, in partnership with Say Yes to Education Syracuse and 100 Black Men of Syracuse organized and facilitated four sessions of free SAT prep classes during the 2013-2014 school year. The SAT prep program will be honored by Superintendent Sharon Contreras and the SCSD Board of Education in a resolution presented at the June 11th Board of Education meeting.

The SAT prep classes are funded by Syracuse University through the Chancellor/Vice Chancellor’s office and represent part of the University’s contribution to the Say Yes collaboration. Participation in this year’s prep classes increased significantly in this, the program’s second year, serving over 450 high school students. Under the leadership of School of Education Associate Dean George Theoharis, doctoral students Hugh Burnam and Bridget Lawson, and Reading and Language Arts Professor Rochelle Dail, who served as one of the literacy instructors, the team coordinated over 40 SU students as tutors and instructors to deliver high quality programming. Two sessions were offered in the fall 2013 and two in spring 2014; lasting four Saturdays per session and including meals and free study guides for students.
