Dean’s Message – Spring 2015

There is palpable excitement in the School of Education as we head toward the final days of the Spring 2015 semester. Graduation is around the corner, and happy students and family members will gather in Syracuse to celebrate accomplishments. Study abroad trips for the summer will immerse SOE faculty members and students in different settings, experiences and cultures. Faculty members and graduate students will lay out their summer research goals, and our Office of Academic and Student Services and faculty program coordinators will be communicating regularly with our incoming students as plans take shape for the Fall 2015 semester.

I’m excited, too! I’m excited and honored to serve as your dean, and to work with our outstanding faculty and staff members, students, alumni, and friends of the School of Education. We are united with a vision of preparing leaders who will transform education so it is accessible, equitable, and relevant for all learners. One of our collaborative tasks this academic year has been to prepare a School of Education Position Statement on current U.S. policies on education and educator preparation to share with our students, alumni, community partners, and friends of the SOE. We also joined many other educators in providing our comments to Secretary Arne Duncan on some proposed regulations on teacher education. While there are many challenges facing education, we are eager to be part of the national conversation on educational issues.

I hope that you are also excited about the work of the faculty, staff, and students of the School of Education. We love hearing from you and appreciate so very much your support. Join us in transforming education!
