The C.A.S. program in School District Business Leadership prepares graduates to be effective, collaborative, equitable, and compassionate administrators in school buildings and districts.
This program, a partnership between the Department of Teaching and Leadership and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, leads to New York State certification as a School District Business Leader and follows the professional preparation standards for school business management of the Association of School Business Officials.
There is an emphasis on the collective decision-making process involved in personnel management, labor relations, and long-term strategic planning. This program includes strong fundamental knowledge and skills in six key areas of district business operations:
This program also includes 600 hours of intensive internship, usually spread over semesters, to give you first-hand experience in these and other areas that district business leaders face.
Graduates of this program often work in K-12 schools and districts as a Chief Officer, Assistant Superintendent, or Director in a budget, finance, human resources, facilities, or other non-instructional function. This program is often taken concurrently with either the C.A.S. in Educational Leadership or the Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) from the Maxwell School.
