Academic Support
Any college student can experience academic challenges at some point in his or her program. This may happen with a particular course or within a certain semester. It is in your best interest to keep an eye on your progress in classes and look out for signs of difficulty. This will ensure that you can identify and utilize all the supportive services in the School of Education and on campus.
If at any point in your academic experience at SU you are not achieving the success you expect, you are advised to:
Contact your faculty advisor
Explain your difficulties, and be specific. You and your advisor can work on some strategies and problem solving techniques. Your advisor can also help you connect with appropriate campus resources.

- Figure out what your course grade is currently
- Identify areas of misunderstanding and trouble with content

Advising
In support of your own insights and planning, there is a web of support in the School of Education to help advise you throughout the course of your studies. The usefulness of others' support and advice will be key to your success-but you can personally do a lot to maximize these relationships.
Faculty Advisors
Every student is assigned a faculty advisor. The advisor is an instructor or professor in the School of Education and is often a professor in your program or department. Advisors are available to assist you with academic decision-making and planning, provide support, and help you connect with campus resources when needed.
Peer Advisors
Every student in the School of Education is also assigned a peer advisor. Peer Advisors are available to assist you with personal questions, provide support, and answer questions about courses and course selection. They are also an excellent source of information about campus resources and ways to become more involved at SU. The Coordinator of the Peer Advising program can be reached at (315) 443-4269.
Informal Advising
You are also encouraged to utilize the knowledge and experience of your course instructors, School of Education staff, and academic department staff to gain insight and information that will help you make decisions. Be aware that only your assigned faculty advisor can sign your paperwork. Your faculty advisor should be aware of all decisions and changes you make in your plans.
If you have additional questions about academic advising or need additional advice or support, contact our Academic and Student Services Office in 270 Huntington Hall, (315) 443-2526.
