Physical Education
Syracuse University’s Physical Education major prepares students for teaching physical education grades K-12 in public and private schools. With specialized training in teaching methods and coaching field experiences, our small class sizes allow teacher candidates to develop strong relationships with their professors and peers. Physical Education students develop lifelong skills of health and wellness and understand educational philosophies and practices in urban, inclusive education reflecting an ever-changing world.
In addition to providing the best possible professional training in the physical education field, the School of Education affords its teacher candidates the advantages of resources found only at a major research university. Undergraduate studies are enhanced with a strong liberal arts core and rigorous lab science courses. Teacher candidates also acquire an array of teaching skills from a number of one-credit activity courses including gymnastics, individual and dual sports, team sports, aquatics, adventure activities, weight training and dance. Teacher candidates begin field experiences in public schools in their first year, culminating with a senior year student teaching semester.
