Inclusive Early Childhood Special Education
- Exciting new program established from already existing graduate program in the School of Education;
- A strong program located in an urban setting. This means our students have the opportunity to work in real world settings that typify the challenges America faces in education. We are fortunate to have good, quality urban schools that collaborate with our faculty and students;
- Students work in model inclusive daycare centers and classrooms in the city of Syracuse school district (a major urban school district) as well as in many surrounding CNY area suburban and rural school districts;
- Both School of Education and Child and Family Studies faculty publish their work in top-tier journals; conduct cutting edge national and international research supported by grants from the U.S. Dept. of Education, the National Institute of Health, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration of Children and Families, as well as from private foundations. They have held Fulbright awards and earned honorary degrees;
- One degree leading to two certifications: New York State early childhood (birth-2nd) and students with disabilities (birth-2nd);
- Approximately 40 of the total credits required are Liberal Arts credits and a 27-30 credit concentration is completed in child and family studies;
- Extensive field experience throughout the four -year program beginning first semester freshman year. (Unless a student transfers into the program, there is a minimum of 8 placements);
- SOE pass rates for the various NY State certification tests were between 97% and 100% for 2006-2007. We are accredited through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
