Health and Exercise Science

A major in Health and Exercise Science prepares students for a variety of careers in the emerging fields of academic, clinical and corporate health and fitness.

Coursework, combined with field experience and participation in nationally recognized faculty research of exercise physiology and applied physiology, provides our students with a strong foundation necessary to succeed at all levels.

Syracuse University’s on-campus facilities supplement a rigorous academic program.  Beyond the lecture halls and laboratories, the exercise science classrooms include four gymnasiums, racquetball/squash courts, two indoor pools, dance studios, tennis courts, weight rooms and various indoor and outdoor athletic playing fields.  Our students’ familiarity with new equipment and technology enables them to adapt more readily to the demands of the professional world.  The curriculum also prepares degree candidates for a variety of professional certifications, such as those offered by the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.  Our graduates remain among the top candidates for careers in sports medicine, exercise physiology, sports psychology, medicine, athletic administration and physical therapy.

In addition to out general and pre-physical therapy track options, students may apply for the 3 + 3 Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, with SUNY Upstate Medical University, is an innovative program leading directly to a doctorate in physical therapy.
