SUMMER LITERACY CLINIC
Our summer clinic provides young people in grades 3 through 12 with literacy tutoring and related activities on Monday through Thursdays from 8:30 through 10 am for five weeks during the summer. Young people receive one-to-one assessment-based literacy instruction from a certified teacher who is completing our Literacy Education MS program. Suited to students' individual needs, tutoring lasts one hour each day and usually includes explicit instruction in needed skills and strategies, as well as guided inquiry projects designed to encourage young people to develop and apply their reading and writing skills. Students also participate in a half hour of group instruction, involving them in working with other teachers and young people on additional literacy projects. We meet this summer from July 13 through August 13, 2009. The cost is $300, with some scholarship support available for families that demonstrate need.
Our waiting list usually begins in mid-August at the end of the preceding year when our students and their parents ask to return. Please call or email Rebecca Freeland, at 443-4755 or rbfreela@syr.edu, as soon as possible to join our waiting list.
