Instructional Technology - Educational Technology Specialist PreK-12

Imagine:  Do you want to have this kind of impact?

  • A high school teacher looking to enhance student teamwork through effective integration of digital technologies in collaborative learning projects contacts the educational technology specialist for guidance in developing classroom activities to maximize the use of technology.
  • The technology specialist collaborates with the school district technology and professional development departments to construct a series of in-service sessions focused on creating effective technology enhanced classroom environments.
  • A middle school is adding interactive whiteboards to its classrooms to enhance teaching and student interaction.  The educational technology specialist, familiar with this new technology, develops implementation guides to support best practices in classroom use.

The Masters of Science (MS) in Instructional Technology (IT) is intended for teachers who have completed prior studies in one or more fields of PreK-12 education and who already hold a New York State Initial teaching certificate in those fields.  The 37 credit-hour program will advance professional practice by supporting leadership in the integration of technology in learning and enhancement of teaching with technology.  You will be prepared to facilitate technology into school settings for all learners including those with disabilities.  You will also be prepared as a leader who works with school and district personnel to support overall technology initiatives.  Upon successful completion of the IT Masters program candidates will be eligible for Syracuse University's institutional recommendation for:

  • NYS initial certification in Educational Technology Specialist (PreK-12)
  • NYS professional teacher certification in area of initial NYS teaching certification
