Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling
The Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling is a 48-credit program of study. It is a research-based program and is organized to embody the 10 knowledge domains that are the core competency requirements for rehabilitation counselors in a wide range of employment settings. These professional competencies have been validated by empirical research and are continuously reviewed and updated to reflect changes in the profession. The master’s curriculum is carefully constructed to integrate theory and practice and to ensure that students attain the core competencies in a developmental manner. Multiple methods of instruction are utilized to accommodate different learning styles, and include lecture and discussion, group exercises and assignments, substantial involvement of community presenters and consumer perspectives, Web-supported instruction, and extensive field-work assignments. A central feature of the master’s program of study is the extent to which theory and practice are integrated in a developmental sequence so that competencies learned earlier in the curriculum are applied and expanded in later classes. This integration of theory and practice extends beyond the traditional synthesis of didactic classroom learning with practical and internship experiences, but also includes extensive field-based assignments in the majority of classes.
CORE has extended the accreditation of the Rehabilitation Counseling Program until August 2009.
