Social Studies Education
Social studies educators play a critical role in society. They are charged with educating and enlightening society's youngest citizens and expanding the classroom to every corner of the world. With the dynamic social conditions of today’s society, the social studies education program offers students a range of specialties and access to quality resources. Students and faculty are dedicated to advancing worldwide research in all social science areas.
Students will complete a major in one social science area such as African American Studies, American studies, anthropology, economics, geography, history, policy studies, political science or sociology. Social Studies Education is a dual-degree undergraduate program. Students earn a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) diploma granted by the College of the Arts and Sciences and the School of Education. This program meets the academic requirements for New York State initial certification in social studies grades 7-12.
