M.S. in Mathematics Education
Our Master's program in Math Education (grades 7-12) prepares teachers for teaching diverse students in 21st century classrooms. This 30-38 credit program aligns with the professional standards of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the New York State Teaching and Learning Standards. From experiences in university classrooms, online, and in schools and communities, you will learn to design inclusive, culturally relevant pedagogy for all students. The program graduates new professionals who are ready to teach mathematical practices, along with concepts and procedures. Whether working in classrooms or in the community, our graduates understand the key role that mathematics educators play in developing mathematical literacy across the curriculum and for life purposes that extend beyond school.
The program is designed to be completed full-time in a single calendar year, beginning in May.
You will take classes with tenured and tenure-track faculty who are deeply interested in educational theory and research in the field of mathematics education.
Our program has strong collaborative ties with faculty in the Department of Mathematics. You will continue to develop your content knowledge while learning how to teach and work with students and communities.
Small student cohorts mean you get to know teachers and peers who will become your lifelong colleagues.
Each semester—summer, fall, and spring—centers on an intensive field placement to provide rich teaching experience with youth from diverse backgrounds.
