What do I need to apply?

  • Graduate teacher preparation and school leadership candidates must submit:
    • Competitive scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Miller Analogy Test (MAT), or other acceptable, nationally normed admissions examination.
    • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0.
    • Personal essay demonstrating candidates’ beliefs about student learning, commitment to diversity, enthusiasm for learning, willingness to foster collaboration, and ethics.
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and.
  • New York State initial certification in students with disabilities (birth to 2 years), (grades 1 to 6), (grades 7 to 12).
  • Strong professor and/or employer recommendations.
  • A completed application for graduate study at Syracuse University.
  • Interview required.

Note: Those with New York State initial certification in special education, or certification from another state, or those who are in their last semester of completing a New York initial certification program should apply for New York State Students with Disabilities certification before beginning this master’s program.

What is the Application Deadline?

There is no firm application deadline. Those who wish to apply for a School of Education Scholarship should apply by January 1 for the following fall semester. We also suggest this deadline for others, although applications are reviewed on a continuing basis.&n; Applications are considered for Fall, Spring or Summer. A summer or fall start is suggested for full-time students.
