Master of Science in Art Education

Overview

Graduate study in art education focuses on three emphases:
  • an exploration of media and sensory involvement,
  • developing art-centered art curricula based on phenomenological encounters,
  • and research into the disciplines of inquiry in art and art education.

In addition to coursework, students become members of the Syracuse University Art Education Association and plan trips and mini-conferences with faculty members and area art educators to exchange ideas and promote professional development.

The graduate programs are offered in conjunction with the University's College of Visual and Performing Arts. Master of science (M.S.) degree programs are available for students with no education background seeking teacher certification (preparation program) or for students provisionally certified in art education who are seeking permanent certification or others not seeking certification (extended study program). Doctoral programs in teaching and curriculum with a concentration in art education are also available.

Master's Degree Programs:
Art Education: Preparation, M.S.
Art Education: Professional Certification, M.S.
