How will I pay for my education?

Numerous sources of financial support are available to Teaching English Language Learners applicants:

  • We strongly advise all of our master’s applicants to apply for financial support, including federal loans and work study, through the Syracuse University Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
  • School of Education competitive scholarships are available for students in most graduate programs. The application process is separate from applying to the School of Education, and the deadline is typically January 15 for the following fall semester.
  • Reading & Language Arts Scholarships are available for students in a variety of fields and programs.
  • To apply for a graduate assistantship within the Reading & Language Arts department, send an electronic letter of interest and resume to department chair Marcelle Haddix at
  • If you graduated from any degree program at Syracuse University in the past five years, you may be eligible for the Graduate Student Tuition Scholarship, covering 25% of your tuition costs.
  • Teaching English Language Learners is considered a high-needs area.  As a result, you may be eligible for a reduction in tuition costs for the program through the following:
