Admissions Information

What do I need to apply?

  • Graduate teacher preparation and school leadership candidates must submit:
    • Competitive scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Miller Analogy Test (MAT), or other acceptable, nationally normed admissions examination.
    • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 3.0.
    • Personal essay demonstrating candidates’ beliefs about student learning, commitment to diversity, enthusiasm for learning, willingness to foster collaboration, and ethics.
  • An earned bachelor’s degree.
  • Must hold or be in the process of obtaining NYS teaching certification prior to applying.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and clearly in writing.
  • Strong academic and/or employer recommendations, attesting to the applicant’s ability to manage graduate-level coursework
  • Experience working with young people in formal or informal capacities

What is the application deadline?

The deadline for applications to the master’s program in Literacy Education is January 15, to coincide with the application deadline for School of Education scholarships. Qualified applicants will be considered for admission on a rolling basis after this date if space is available.
